Hazards Identification
Routes of Entry: (under normal conditions of use)
Skin Contact: Minor Eye Contact: Minor Ingestion: Major Inhalation: Minor
Effects
of Short-Term (Acute) Exposure:
Inhalation: This product has a low vapor
pressure and is not expected to present an inhalation hazard at ambient
conditions. Caution should be taken to
prevent aerosolization or misting of this product. The short term exposure
limit for this product as an oil mist is 10mg/m3. Above this limit
product may cause respiratory irritation or other pulmonary effects.
Skin Contact: This product is
not expected to cause any skin irriation upon direct single or repeated and
prolonged contact; however, similar chemical composition prodducts applied to
the skin of laboratory animals resulted in minimal to slight dermal irritation.
Eye Contact: This product is minimally
irritating to the eyes upon direct contact, based on testing of similar
products and/or components.
Ingestion: Ingestion is relatively non-toxic unless
aspiration occurs. Aspiration may lead
to chemical pneumonitis that is characterized by pulmonary edema and hemorrhage
and may be fatal. This product has
laxative properties and may result in abdominal cramps and diarrhea.
Hazards
Identification, continued
Effects
of Long-Term (Chronic) Exposure:
Not determined.
Medical
Conditions Aggravated By Exposure:
Not determined.
4.
First Aid Measures
Eye Contact: Immediately flush eyes with large amounts of water and continue flushing for at least 15 minutes until irritation subsides. If material is hot, treat for thermal burns and take victim to hospital immediately.
Skin Contact: Remove contaminated clothing. If material is hot, submerge injured area in cold water. If victim is severely burned, remove to a hospital immediately.
Inhalation: This material has a low vapor pressure and is not expected to present an inhalation exposure at ambient conditions. If victim has been exposed to vapors remove to fresh air. If breathing has stopped, a trained person should perform artificial respiration. Get medical attention immediately.
Ingestion: May act as a laxative. Do not induce vomiting due to aspiration hazard. IF vomiting occurs, lower head below knees to avoid aspiration. Seek medical attention immediately.
5.
Fire Fighting Measures
Flash point: 168oC
Autoignition temperature: Not applicable.
Lower Explosive Limit: Not established
Upper Explosion
Limit: Not
established
Sensitivity to Impact: Not determined.
Sensitivity to Static Discharge: Not determined.
Hazardous Combustion Products: Dense smoke may be generated while burning. Incomplete combustion can form carbon monoxide.
Extinguishing Media: Use dry chemical, foam, or carbon dioxide.
Fire Fighting
Instructions: This material will
burn although it is not easily ignited. Caution should be exercised when using
water or foam as frothing may occur, especially if sprayed onto burning liquid.
Do not enter confined fire space
without proper personal protection. Use approved positive pressure
self-contained breathing apparatus.
NATIONAL
FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION (NFPA) HAZARD INDEX:
HEALTH: 0 - No unusual hazard.
FLAMMABILITY: 1 - Combustible if heated.
REACTIVITY: 0 - Not reactive when mixed with water.
SPECIFIC HAZARDS: None
6.
Accidental Release Measures
Personal Protection: Wear
appropriate personal protective equipment as specified in section 8 while
cleaning the spill.
Environmental Precautions: Implement
spill control plan. Keep materials from spilling into sewers, storm drains,
surface water and soil.
Remedial Measures: Contain spillage and mop up with
absorbant material. Dispose of in approved waste containers. Comply
with all applicable governmental regulations on spill reporting and handling
and disposal of waste. It is recommended that each user establish a spill
prevention, control and counter measure plan. Such a plan should include
procedures applicable to proper storage, control and clean-up of spills,
including reuse or disposal as appropriate.
7.
Handling and Storage
Handling
Procedures: Do not
transfer to unmarked containers. Ensure adequate ventilation. Have emergency
equipment readily available. Keep containers closed when not in use. Keep away
from sources of ignition. Wash face and
hands thoroughly after handling and before eating, drinking, or using tobacco
products.
Storage: Store in closed containers away from heat,
sparks, open flame, or oxidizing materials.
Fire extinguishers should be kept readily available.
8.
Exposure Controls, Personal
Protection
Engineering Controls: Ventilation
not required under normal use. If necessary, use general or local exhaust
ventilation to maintain exposure below the exposure limits.
Respiratory
Protection: Not required under nomal use. If vapour or mist is generated by heating use
a NIOSH certified organic vapour respirator with dust and mist filter.
Skin protection: Not
required under normal use. For prolonged
or repeated skin exposure, wear impervious gloves and boots and/or other
protective clothing according to circumstances.
Eye and Face Protection: Not
required under normal use. If material
is used in such a way that splashing could occur, use splash proof safety
goggles.
Footwear: As required by worksite rules.
Other: Always wash hands
and face with soap and water before eacting, drinking, smoking.
